The Office of Identification Services provides identification cards to permanent and temporary staff, interns, pages, fellows, detailees, liaison offices, vendors, and the immediate family and spouses of Members of Congress.

Hours of Operation

I.D. cards are issued between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday in room 321 Cannon HOB.

I.D. Classifications

Each I.D. has a colored background which indicates the employees access level. A red background stands for 24 hour building access and yellow for normal business hours access, which is 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week, or until the House goes out of session.

Application and Responsibility

To obtain a new I.D. card, staff must fill out a Congressional ID/Access Card request form, have it signed by their employing Member, and submit it to ID Services in person or by fax, preferably at least 24 hours in advance of need.

Lost Identification Badges

Lost I.D.s must be reported to ID Services, either by telephone or in person. The report should include the card holders name, social security number, and fax number in order to fill out an affidavit of lost ID. The affidavit must be signed by both the Member and card holder, and there is a three business day waiting period before an ID will be reissued.

Temporary Identification Badges

Permanent staff can get a temporary ID by reporting either to B220 Longworth (U.S. Capitol Police House Division Office), 321 Cannon, or the Appointments Desk at the South Door of the Capitol. You will need to show photo identification in order to receive a temporary ID.
