Preparing for your move

Packing:

Boxes for packing may be obtained from the Office Supply Service (5-3321). There are charges for boxes. As soon as practical, each staff member should begin packing the content of their desk and all other personal belongings. All pictures, plaques, momentos, etc., where practical should be packed in boxes. Each box should be labeled with the staff person's name and room location within the suite (e.g., staff room, reception room, Administrative Assistant). An average office move may require 75 to 100 packing boxes.

Do NOT pack any items of equipment, including telephones, in these large boxes as all equipment items must be available for inventory by OSM and HIR. Where applicable, equipment should be labeled with the staff person's name and room location within the suite (e.g., staff room, reception room, Administrative Assistant).

All large books, such as bound editions of the Congressional Record and U.S. Code need not be packed. This office will pack and transport them in large 9clean0 tub trucks to your new office.

If your are moving from one building to another, you must pack all files in boxes. Any office moving within the Longworth Building will also require packing of all files in boxes.

Planning for Furniture and Equipment

Advanced planning is necessary in order to properly lay out your new office. Professional space planners will be assigned to assist you with your new office layout and prepare a floor plan. A meeting with your move coordinator and space planner will be scheduled immediately after you select your new office. Typical suite furniture layouts can be accessed here.

Please refer to your "Floor Plan Instructions" for additional information about the placement of telephones in your office. If you have questions which cannot be answered by your Move Coordinator, please call the Office of Telecommunications at 6-4101.

Contact your counselor at Office Systems Management (5-3994) to ensure that all advance preparations are made for moving your equipment. Computer items must be de-installed, some photocopiers must be drained, and it may be necessary to order new cable for reinstalling computers in your new office.

Please contact your H.I.R. Technical Support Representative (TSR) at 5-6002 if you have any questions regarding your computer equipment.
