The Radio-TV Gallery's Big Studio, located in H-321 of the Capitol Building, can be available for news conferences subject to the following House rules:
1) A Member must be invited by a broadcast journalist who guarantees to cover the
event. This is to prevent a member from coming to the studio and having no one there to cover
their comments. Print journalists are allowed to be in the studio but may not invite members
themselves.
2) Only Members of Congress may be interviewed in the studio. If a member wishes to have
non-Members attend or participate, the event may be arranged at another location. Consider
reserving a committee or private room in the Capitol or one of the office buildings or, in nice
weather, the Triangle (see below).
3) Only accredited journalists are allowed in the studio for the event. Please do not invite
others because it is awkward for everyone when we have to exclude them. Staff is allowed
in the studio only if space permits. In your notice of a news conference in the Gallery, always
include that it is "FOR MEDIA ONLY."
The Triangle is the grassy area located across from the House steps on the East Front of
the Capitol Building. You may schedule a news conference at the Triangle by contacting the
Radio-TV Gallery with the following information:
---date and time of the event
---Members attending
---subject of news conference
Non-Members can participate at news conferences held there, but at least one Member must
participate as well.
Member's office is responsible for arranging any podium, easels or props through the House
Property Supply Office (226-2421).
Any large or unusual props should be cleared through the Sgt.-At-Arms (225-2456).
If a broadcaster wants to invite a Member for a one-on-one interview, it will probably be scheduled for the Small Sudio which is also located in H-321 of the Capitol Building, or the Rayburn Studio, which is located in B-365 Rayburn. The same rules apply for the use of any of our studios.
Releases sent to the Radio-TV Gallery will be posted the day they are received. Notices of press conferences or events remain posted until after the event. If you want a release to be placed in a reporter's mailbox, please address individual releases. The Gallery does not accept faxed news releases unless they are directed to a specific reporter.
