U.S. House of Representatives
Resume Referral Service

GENERAL INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS

The Resume Referral Service is a non-partisan service provided for the benefit of Members, Committees and
administrative offices of the House, as well as job applicants. House offices are independent employers and may
establish an array of positions with differing job requirements, salaries and conditions of employment. All House offices
are equal opportunity employers. All positions must meet the appropriate requirements, rules, and guidelines established
by the House.

Staff positions in the offices of the U.S. House of Representatives are generally managerial, legislative or administrative
in nature. Most positions have multiple duties and require computer skills.

The referral service provides House offices the opportunity to either openly (name of office provided) or anonymously
(name of office not provided) solicit applications for employment. Use of the referral service is voluntary.

House offices request assistance filling positions by submitting A Resume Request Forms which define position
requirements. Requirements are usually in the areas of education, experience, and office or professional skills.

In response to anonymous postings or unadvertised requests, the Resume Referral Service sends the requesting office
the resumes of applicants whose experiences are commensurate with the positions requirements. When the position is
openly advertised, the Resume Referral Service forwards all applicant resumes received for the position to the
requesting office.

Whether applicants are solicited openly or anonymously, the requesting office is responsible for reviewing resumes and
contacting those applicants they wish to consider further. The requesting office customarily interviews applicants in
Washington, D.C., before making a selection. Travel expenses must be borne by the applicant.

If you reside in the local area or are traveling in the vicinity of Washington, D.C., we invite you to visit the Office of
Human Resources, where you will find vacancy announcements for positions throughout the House. Office hours for the
service are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; the office is located in Room 263 of the Cannon
House Office Building. No appointment is necessary to review posted vacancy announcements. You can also call the
Human Resources Job Line for the U.S. House of Representatives at (202) 225-2450 for a listing of House
employment opportunities. (Press six for House Employment Opportunities.)

The Resume Referral Service, operated under the direction of the Office of Human Resources, has no hiring authority
nor does it establish or control salaries, conditions of employment, or job requirements.
