Reconsideration Procedures
You may ask your agency to reconsider an agency decision (for
employees denied insurance coverage). You msy ask the Office of
Personnel Management (OPM) to reconsider an initial decision of
OPM (for retirees denied the right to continue coverage into
retirement).
A request for reconsideration must be filed within 30 calendar
days from the date of the written decision stating the right to
reconsideration. Your request should include the reasons you are
requesting reconsideration and a copy of the initial decision on
which your request is based. Your agency may extend the time
limit for filing if you can show that you were not notified of
the time limit or that you were prevented by circumstances beyond
your control from making the request within the time limit.
You do not have the right to an agency or OPM reconsideration of
a decision made by OFEGLI (such as denial of your request for
insurance based on medical evidence ot insurability or
disapproval of a claim for Option C benefits).
Active employee requests for reconsideration should be sent to
the agency address shown in your initial decision letter.
