New Member Information


A Counselor in the Office of Members' Services, Caroline Klemp or Juanita Conkling, will be contacting new Members to schedule appointments regarding payroll and benefits. MEMBER PAY

Member's 1997 Annual Salary is $133,600. The first paycheck is issued February 1, 1997. Your monthly salary is paid on the first business day of the month following the close of the preceding monthly pay period. New Members will receive eleven (11) monthly paychecks in the first year of service. Members will receive the December, 1997 paycheck on January 1, 1998. Thus, the New Member's gross salary for the first year of service is 11/12 of annual salary. You will need to complete a Payroll Information Form (you may download this form, complete the required information and fax it to Members' Services).

TAX INFORMATION

State Income Tax Reporting: For state income tax purposes, you are considered residents of the state from which elected. You will need to complete the W-4 form page1, page2, as well as the Voluntary State Withholding Tax Certificate (you may download these forms, complete the required information and fax it to Members' Services, however, the original must be mailed to this office as well).

MEMBER BENEFITS

* Health Benefits are available to you under the Federal Employee's Health Benefits Program. You must file an election or declination of coverage with the Office of Members' Services prior to receiving first paycheck. The effective date of coverage is February 1, 1997. You will need to complete a Health Benefits Registration Form. For more information and forms, contact a Members' Services Counselor.

* Life Insurance Benefits are available to you under the Federal Employee's Group Life Insurance Program. You are automatically enrolled in Basic Life Insurance unless otherwise requested. You need to file a form with the Members' Service Office. You will need to complete a Life Insurance Election Form. For more information and forms, contact a Members' Services Counselor.

* Retirement Benefits are automatically covered by Social Security which will be deducted from your paycheck. You are automatically covered by Federal Employees Retirement System unless you notify Members' Services in writing that you elect to decline coverage.

* Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) You will need to complete a Thrift Savings Plan Form. Eligibility to participate in the TSP starts during the second open season following coverage under FERS. For more information and forms, contact a Members' Services Counselor.
